Monroe County Parks & Beaches

Monroe County Parks and Beaches is responsible for 23 properties, covering more than 100 acres of the island chain. Some parks have community rooms, shelters, or other areas available for rent.

Leashed pets are allowed at Monroe County parks, owners are responsible to clean up after their pets. No commercial activity of any type can be conducted on any county beach or park without a lease or license from the county. All county-owned parks and beaches are no smoking, with the exception of an unfiltered cigar.

Monroe County parks and beached are listed below from Key Largo to Key West.

Key Largo

Friendship Park

This small 3-acre park has a playground, baseball diamond, basketball courts, and shaded structures.

  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 8:30 p.m.

Key Largo Community Park & Pool

This 14-acre park features a walking trail and a fitness course. It also has tennis, soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, handball, disc golf, and skateboarding. The Jacobs Aquatic Center is located on the edge of the park (admission fees apply for the pool).

Peace Park at Nelson Government Center

This bayfront park features five pavilions, restrooms during business hours, and picnic tables. No mooring is available at the dock.

  • Open daily from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Rowell’s Waterfront Park

This is an 8-acre, passive waterfront park. The park has picnic tables, benches, a place to swim (at your own risk), and a kayak and paddleboard launching area. Boats and personal watercraft are not allowed.

  • Location: Mile Marker 104.5 on U.S. 1
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until one-half hour after sunset

Mike Forster Memorial Park

This is a small 3-acre open area park with limited parking.

  • Location: 20 Sunset Road
  • Open daily from 7 a.m. to sunset

Tavernier

Old Settlers Park

This oceanfront historic location has been transformed into a small park with a pavilion, picnic table, benches along a walking trail, and a playground. There is no water access from this park. Parking is limited. 

  • Location: Mile Marker 92.5 of U.S. 1, oceanside
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Harry Harris Park

The 21-acre oceanfront park includes a boat ramp, pavilions, barbecue grills, picnic tables, a playground, a protected beach, and a swimming area. There are two baseball fields and basketball courts.

There is a fee for non-Monroe County residents on weekends and holidays. Park admission fee waived for active-duty military, Veterans, and their immediate family members.

Weekends:
$8 per person ages 18-64
$5 per person ages 3-17 and 65 and older

Holidays and Mini Season:
$15 per person ages 18-64
$10 per person ages 3-17 and 65 and older

Little Duck Key

Veterans Memorial Park

This oceanfront beach park offers access to shallow water and views of the 7 Mile Bridge. The permanent bathrooms and one pavilion at the site need further renovations. There are porta potty facilities on site available for use. 

  • Location: west end of the Seven Mile Bridge, Mile Marker 40 off of U.S. 1
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Big Pine Key

Blue Heron Park

This park offers three pickleball courts.

  • Location: Intersection of Wilder Road and Lytton Way
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Big Pine Key Community Park

The waterfront park includes tennis courts, a playground, a skate park, ball fields, bocce, basketball and handball courts, and a fitness trail. There is no water access from the park.

Pine Channel Nature Park

The Pine Channel Nature Park has 17 parking spaces, bike racks, restrooms, a kayak and canoe hand-launch area, 9,500 square feet of boardwalk, tiki huts, picnic areas with tables, benches, and barbeque grills, and an 11-foot raised viewing deck.

  • Location: 29550 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until a half-hour past sunset.

Palm Villa Park

This small park has a picnic table overlooking Bogie Channel. No water access.

  • Location: End of Palm Avenue and Wilder
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Watson Field Park & Big Pine Key Dog Park

There is a baseball field, a sand volleyball court, and two tennis courts. This park has a small and large gated dog park with a grassy playing field.

  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 10 p.m.

Ramrod Key

Ramrod Park

The bayside waterfront passive park has limited amenities and a secluded beach area.

  • Location: Corner of Bay Shore Drive and Pruitt Drive
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Sugarloaf Key

Sugarloaf Shark Park

This park has a walking trail with fitness equipment, baseball, football, and soccer fields, and a pavilion. 

  • Location: 255 Crane Blvd
  • Open weekdays after school hours until sunset
  • Open weekends from 7:30 a.m. until sunset
  • After-hours available by reservation

Saddlebunch Keys

Bay Point Park

This park behind Baby’s Coffee features benches, picnic tables, and barbeque pits. There is a sand volleyball court, a basketball court, a tennis court, and pickleball lines on the tennis court. It also has a sandy playground and a large grassy field. Nearby, there is a small rocky area that offers water access as a kayak or paddleboard launch (no parking at launch).

  • Location: 6 West Circle Drive, Mile Marker 15
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m.
  • Limited parking

Geiger Key

Boca Chica Beach

This is a relatively secluded beach perfect for exploring the water's edge. There is no access past the paved areas of the beach - trespassers on Navy property will be issued citations. Limited parking. 

  • Location: End of Boca Chica Road
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Big Coppitt Key

Big Coppitt Volunteer Fire Department Park

The park includes a basketball court, roller hockey rink, and a handball court. There are six tables and benches available for use.

  • Location: 280 Avenue F
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Wilhelmina Harvey Park

The park has a playground, a picnic area with an open grassy area, and a short walking trail.

  • Location: 373 Avenue F
  • Open from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Stock Island

Bernstein Park

This park has baseball, football, and soccer fields, a community center, a playground, a fitness court, and other amenities.  

  • Location: corner of 5th Street and 5th Avenue
  • Open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Key West

Higgs Beach & Reynolds Street Pier

The oceanside waterfront park offers a place for swimming and snorkeling, beach volleyball, tennis courts, and pickleball courts. It includes two gated dog parks and a playground with barbecue pits and picnic tables. Reynolds Street Pier is a great place to view the sunset. 

  • Location: 1040 Atlantic Blvd
  • Open daily from 7:30 a.m. until sunset

Key West Pines Park

Next to Fort East Martello, the picnic area under Australian pines is a nice place to watch planes take off from Key West International Airport.
