Big Pine Volunteers
Monroe County Fire Station 13, Big Pine Key, has 14 trained and dedicated County volunteers who serve their community by supporting and supplementing the Monroe County Fire Rescue (MCFR) career firefighter force.
Individual Station 13 volunteer members function in the capacity of a volunteer within the structure of the MCFR organization once he/she has met the requirements and standards for membership. Upon acceptance for membership, they are eligible to receive basic and advanced training, which qualifies them to serve their community and an opportunity to gain valuable experience should they decide to pursue a career in the fire service. Once qualified, volunteers are eligible to respond to emergency scenes, and provide service under the direction of departmental officers.
Station 13 has a Volunteer Station Captain who serves as a spokesperson for the volunteer members, and who is responsible for recruitment and retention of volunteer firefighters. He/she is also responsible for planning and scheduling volunteer support and firefighter training; coordination of recording keeping, and review and validation of volunteer activity reports.
Big Pine Volunteers meet every Thursday at Station 13, Big Pine Key.
Candidates for membership must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Reside within Monroe County
