Monroe County Project Management will host an informal community meeting regarding the preliminary design plans for Rowell’s Waterfront Park in Key Largo on June 24 at 6 p.m. at the Murray Nelson Government Center’s meeting room.
The state of the design concept plans will be shown at the meeting and community members can add additional input that will later be presented to the Monroe County Parks and Recreation Board and the Monroe County Board of County Commissioners. The preliminary design concept includes a splash pad, bathrooms, dog park, kayak and canoe launch areas, water access areas, and other improvements to the property.
In addition to the design, Monroe County Public Works recently added 70 pallets of grass, 60 silver buttonwoods, and 30 parking spaces near the water at the park.
Rowell’s Waterfront Park is an 8-acre, kid- and dog-friendly passive park along Florida Bay at Mile Marker 104.5. The park has picnic tables, benches, a place to swim (at your own risk) and a launch for kayaks, canoes, and standup paddleboards. Boats and personal watercraft are not allowed. Admission to the park is free.
